Disambiguation: Did you mean the game Empire ?
EmpireMUD uses a large ascii world map covered in fields, forests, mountains and ocean. Players can harvest resources and build on the persistent world, either alone or in player-controlled empires. Different version of EmpireMUD have had different skill systems. The original EmpireMUD beta had skills tied to most commands, rated from 0 to 100, and each was improved through use. The current version is similar except that there are only eight skills, and advancing in these skills unlocks over 200 different abilities.
The most common version of EmpireMUD was the "After Dark" version, which used a system of attributes and abilities derived from White Wolf's Vampire: the Dark Ages. This version was released in an incomplete form when the original author stopped developing it, and was known for its incomplete abilities and poor game balance between the underpowered humans and overpowered vampires. This version of EmpireMUD can still be found for download on the Internet.
In the current version, EmpireMUD 2.0 alpha, the White Wolf components have been removed. Vampires still exist, but without the extremely overpowered abilities. Humans now have access to many incredible abilities including magic, stealth, and combat powers. The battle system has been completely overhauled and now uses asynchronous combat rounds and speed-based attacks. This version of EmpireMUD is still in development. It is not complete and has not been released for other developers.
Current EmpireMUD development information can be found at http://empiremud.net/ and users can connect to the live version of the game at: telnet empiremud.net 4000
The author intends to release the EmpireMUD code base again when new features are more complete and the game is stable. No release date has been announced.
